Gottfried de Purucker comes from the same mystical background as Helena P. Blavatsky. He distinguises himself by the clarity with which he explains the theosophical ideas and the accuracy with which he preserves their purity. He was head of the Theosophical Society from 1929 until his passing in 1942

This work is one of his many books. It is in many respects an opening of new and inner doors to hitherto carefully guarded esoteric knowledge, and was considered by De Purucker as his most important contribution to Theosophical literature. It supplements with important detail and keen philosophical analysis the Theosophical teachings given by H.P. Blavatsky in her masterpiece The Secret Doctrine

What is this tradition, knowledge of which remains almost totally unknown? It is the esoteric tradition stretching back to the beginnings of time — that line of teaching and teachers, that golden thread of Truth, which has never been broken, which is the essence of the secret wisdom of Nature. It is that Wisdom preserved for mankind through the agency of the Mystery-Schools of the past, and again presented to the world through the medium of a reawakened Theosophical Movement. Dit boek geeft een beeld van de bijzondere taak die Gottfried de Purucker had te vervullen in opdracht van de Meesters van Wijsheid, Mededogen en Vrede. Als Leider van The Theosophical Society en Leraar van de Oosterse School verduidelijkte hij niet alleen de grondbeginselen van de Theosofie, maar corrigeerde hij tevens vele in de loop der jaren gegroeide misvattingen en onjuiste denkbeelden.
Deze uitgave is uniek vanwege de vertaling van de oorspronkelijke – door Gottfried de Purucker zelf geautoriseerde – verslagen van enkele jaren studie van de Katherine Tingley Memorial Group, een afdeling van de Oosterse School. Kennis nemen van deze diepgaande, universele leringen van de Theosofie legt een grote verantwoordelijkheid op de schouders van zowel de Leraar, als van de vertaler, uitgever en vooral ook: de lezer. Want het Esoterische Onderricht in de Oosterse School is in principe gebonden aan zware discipline en training. Zich op de hoogte stellen van de inhoud betekent in dit licht: de verplichting op zich nemen om er ten bate van de gehele mensheid gebruik te maken, met voorbijzien aan eventuele persoonlijke voor- of nadelen. Voor allen die deze consequentie durven te aanvaarden, zal de inhoud een ware schatkamer blijken te zijn. Deze uitgave ziet juist nu het licht, omdat slechts de kennis van de Theosofie een dam kan opwerpen tegen het voortschrijdende materialisme met al zijn uitwassen.
In ruim 1400 pagina’s wordt op onmiskenbare wijze uitleg gegeven over de geestelijke grondslag van het leven. De vaak ingewikkelde technische leringen over de mens en zijn woonplaats, het universum, verklaart Gottfried de Purucker op de van hem bekende heldere en begrijpelijke manier. Daarbij is gekozen voor de aloude en beproefde vorm van vraag en antwoord. Niet alleen is het boek daardoor zeer leesbaar geworden, door de uitgebreide inhoudsopgave en index is het tevens als studieboek / naslagwerk te gebruiken.
Vele door de studenten van de Oosterse School als moeilijk ervaren onderwerpen zijn door G. de Purucker in een later stadium nader toegelicht, in de vorm van aanvullende instructies. Ook deze uiteenzettingen zijn integraal opgenomen in deze door Stichting I.S.I.S. gerealiseerde uitgave.

Gottfried de Purucker was tot zijn overlijden in 1942 Leider van The Theosophical Society. In 1929 volgde hij als zodanig Katherine Tingley op, daarmee de spirituele lijn van Leiderschap volgend die bij Helena Petrovna Blavatsky was begonnen en die door William Quan Judge en Katherine Tingley werd voortgezet.
Als zoon van Zwitserse ouders werd G. de Purucker in 1874 geboren in de Verenigde Staten, waarna hij in Genève zijn opvoeding genoot. Tijdens zijn opleiding specialiseerde hij zich in klassieke en moderne talen: Latijn, Grieks, Hebreeuws, Angelsaksisch, Sanskrit, Italiaans, Spaans, Portugees en Engels, Frans, alsmede Duits. Vooral zijn grote kennis van het Sanskrit - de ‘Taal der Goden’ – en het Hebreeuws is in zijn theosofisch werk van onschatbare waarde gebleken. In 1896 ontmoette hij Katherine Tingley, in die tijd Leidsvrouwe van The Theosophical Society, die tijdens haar eerste wereldreis Genève bezocht. Na enkele grote reizen in Zuid-Amerika verbleef hij enige jaren in Parijs. Daar werkte hij onder andere op de redactie van de Daily Messenger. In 1903 vestigde hij zich voorgoed in het Internationaal Theosofisch Hoofdkwartier te Point Loma, Californië.
Als Leider begon G. de Purucker direct te werken aan een vergroting van The Theosophical Society, langs lijnen die tevoren door hem en Katherine Tingley waren overeengekomen. In 1931 kwam G. de Purucker naar Europa en bezocht daar naast landen als Engeland, Duitsland, Zweden, Finland en Zwitzerland, ook Nederland.Onder zijn inspirerende leiding maakte The Theosophical Society een ongekende bloei door.

G. de Purucker is vooral bekend geworden door vele, nog heden ten dage actuele boeken, zoals Grondslagen der Esoterische Wijsbegeerte, De Mens in de Evolutie, Gulden Regels der Esoterische Wijsbegeerte, H.P. Deze eerste Nederlandse uitgave van de Fundamentals of the Esoteric Philosophy bevat het verslag van een serie van 48 bijeenkomsten, waar Gottfried de Purucker aan een groep studenten Helena Petrovna Blavatsky’s meesterwerk De Geheime Leer uitlegt.
Gottfried de Purucker werd in 1874 te Suffern, New York, geboren en opgevoed in Genève. Hij beheerste in totaal 13 talen, waaronder Grieks, Latijn, Hebreeuws en in latere jaren Sanskriet. Tijdens zijn studie van Westerse én Oosterse heilige boeken in hun originele taal kwam hij al snel tot het inzicht, dat de uitleg en commentaren van Kerkvaders en latere vertalers ontoereikend en vaak zelfs onjuist waren. Ook ontdekte hij dat deze heilige teksten van de verschillende wereldreligies dezelfde oude, universele waarheden bevatten.
Toen hij een boek in handen kreeg over Theosofie, de gemeenschappelijke kern van alle religies, vond hij zijn eigen ontdekkingen bevestigd. Hij werd lid van The Theosophical Society, en verhuisde in 1903 naar het Internationaal Hoofdkwartier ervan in Point Loma, Californië. Vanaf 1929 tot zijn overlijden in 1942 was hij Leider van deze organisatie.
Jaren lang gaf hij overal in Amerika en Europa lezingen, in het Internationaal Hoofdkwartier in Point Loma leidde hij studies voor een kleine groep studenten, waarin hij de esoterische kant van de Theosofie belichtte. In deze serie van 48 studies, die hij gaf van 1924 – 1927, geeft hij hun een meesterlijk inzicht in de 3 Grondstellingen en de 7 hoofdlijnen – de 7 Juwelen van Wijsheid – in De Geheime Leer.
De methode die hij daarbij gebruikt is uniek. Het is de methode van onderricht in de oude Mysteriescholen. Hij begint met een bepaald onderwerp eerst kort aan te duiden. In een volgend hoofdstuk behandelt hij dit onderwerp meer in detail, waarna hij in een later hoofdstuk de esoterische sleutel tot het onderwerp verschaft wanneer de voorgaande gedachten zijn begrepen.
Hierin ligt de onschatbare waarde van dit boek, omdat het de basis verschaft om te groeien naar een steeds dieper inzicht in de aloude Esoterische Wijsbegeerte of Theosofie, en daarmee naar een steeds dieper besef van innerlijke verbondenheid en eenheid met het AL.

De leringen zijn bestemd voor studie en meditatie door Chela’s van de Esoterische School. Zij zijn geput uit dezelfde bron als de voorschriften in H.P. Blavatsky’s De Stem van de Stilte, maar zijn in een voor het Westen begrijpelijker taal omgezet.
Een steun en stimulans voor alle bestudeerders van de Oude Wijsheid, voor allen die graag iets meer willen weten van het leven dat de Chela’s – leerlingen – der Oude Wijsheid leiden.

Eindelijk, zij het pas na vijftig jaar, een boek over H.P. Blavatsky dat de ernstige bestudeerder de mogelijkheid biedt kennis te maken met deze uniek figuur.
Vele boeken zijn reeds over Helena Petrovna Blavatsky geschreven. Boeken, waaruit een grote en soms blinde verering spreekt, en boeken die op niet mis te verstane wijze een vernietigend oordeel uitspreken. Doch geen van deze geeft een inzicht in hetgeen H.P. Blavatsky werkelijk was.
Terecht hebben de schrijvers van dit boek gemeend, dat men een persoonlijkheid als H.P. Blavatsky slechts in werkelijkheid leert kennen, indien men kennis kan nemen van het werk dat werd verricht.
In dit boek wordt de lezer een beeld geschetst van het Mysterie, dat zij zowel voor haar tijdgenoten als voor velen heden ten dage bleef.

In the Wisdom Traditions, the solstices and equinoxes, the four seasonal points, are sacred times that link us to the Universal Life. All cultures in ancient times venerated these seasonal transformations. Drawing from Egyptian, Buddhist, Taoist and Druid teachings, Gottfried de Purucker gives commentary on the inner meaning elaborating the esoteric depth of these sacred teachings

De Purucker distinguishes himself by the clarity with which he explains these teachings to his students and the accuracy with which he preserves their purity. Een succesvolle poging om het zo misbruikte woord ‘Occultisme’ de betekenis terug te geven die het oorspronkelijk had. Zoals G. De Purucker duidelijk aantoont, betekent Occultisme in feite de wetenschap van het verborgene – niet van het ongelofelijke, maar van het wezen, de wortel der dingen
En wat verborgen is kan gekend worden, door de ziener die zich daarin heeft geoefend. Daar is niets vreemds of griezeligs aan. Zo iemand is gewoon een stap verder gevorderd op het eeuwenoude pad van evolutie dan de gemiddelde mens. Maar iedereen kan die stap doen – als hij wil, als hij de moed heeft, en als hij de occulte geestelijke voorschriften volgt. Waarbij de eerste occulte wet geldt, dat het ‘juiste motief’ bepalend is voor Meesterschap.
G. de Purucker schrijft over die mensen, die achter de sluiers van de uiterlijk zichtbare natuur wisten door te dringen, als wegwijzer voor iedereen die hen daarin willen volgen.
G. de Purucker werd in 1874 te Suffern, New York, geboren. In Genève studeerde hij Engels, Frans, Duits, Hebreeuws, Latijn en Grieks. Maar door zijn studie van oosterse filosofie, Sanskrit en de werken van de eerste kerkvaders verlegde hij zijn aandacht naar het Occultisme en de Esoterische Wijsbegeerte. In 1892 werd hij lid van The Theosophical Society, waarvan hij van 1929 tot zijn dood in 1942 Leider was.

In een tijd waarin de discussie weer oplaait over de evolutie van de mens (Darwin of God) biedt dit boek een veel ruimere visie, waarmee u boven de partijen komt te staan.
Gottfried de Purucker laat de Esoterische Wijsbegeerte aan het woord: de innerlijke bron van alle religies en wetenschappelijke stromingen ter wereld.
De mens blijkt veel meer te zijn dan een toevallig geëvolueerd zoogdier. De mens blijkt ook niet een zwak ‘zondig’ wezen te zijn, geschapen door iemand anders.
Ieder mens blijkt alle oneindige kosmische mogelijkheden in zich te hebben. Inclusief de vrije wil en de kracht om al die mogelijkheden in zichzelf naar buiten te brengen en actief te leren gebruiken.
Gottfried de Purucker laat u de geschiedenis van de bewustzijnsgroei van de mensheid op deze planeet opnieuw beleven. Hij toont daarbij ook een nieuw, veel ruimer toekomstperspectief.
Dit boek is halverwege de 20e eeuw geschreven. Men heeft later geprobeerd, dit boek te ‘actualiseren’ aan de hand van de evolutietheorieën van rond 1980. Deze veranderingen bleken echter rond 2000 alweer achterhaald. Met deze ‘actualisering’ werd dus de universele, tijdloze waarde van wat Gottfried de Purucker ons te melden heeft, geweld aangedaan.

In dit Occult Glossarium heeft Gottfried de Purucker ruim 300 van de belangrijkste termen uit de Theosofie of Esoterische Wijsbegeerte verzameld en helder en begrijpelijk beschreven.
Juist omdat hij van mening was, dat een goed begrip van die termen noodzakelijk is om tot diepere studie te komen.

Het Glossarium bevat termen uit zowel de oosterse als de westerse denkwereld
Maar zelfs voor wie al jarenlang studie daarvan maakt, is dit Glossarium onmisbaar, omdat deze termen in de loop van de tijd in betekenis vervaagd en gedegenereerd zijn. Gottfried de Purucker laat de oorspronkelijke betekenis van deze termen weer zien.

Hij heeft dit Glossarium een Occult Glossarium genoemd. Tegenwoordig wordt het begrip occultisme vaak ervaren als iets ‘zweverigs’. In dit boek geeft Gottfried de Purucker onder het trefwoord ‘Occultisme’ daarop een nuchter antwoord:

‘Occultisme’, zoals het woord door Theosofen wordt gebruikt en zoals het ook behoort te worden gebruikt, betekent de studie van de verborgen dingen van het Zijn, de wetenschap van het leven, van de universele Natuur. … van de stoffelijke en psychische, mentale en geestelijke natuur, de Hermetische en Esoterische Wetenschappen genaamd.

The work is largely an elucidation of meaningful passages in The Mahatma Letters and The Secret Doctrine. Dr. de Purucker emphasizes that all is one completeness; that to study component parts and forget the essential unity is to divorce sun from planets. In the ancient Wisdom-teaching, ethics, science, philosophy, art and religion – all are facets of Truth.

G. de Purucker was born in 1874 at Suffern, New York, son of a prominent Anglican minister who for some years served as chaplain of the American Church in Geneva, Switzerland. He received his early education there, in the Collège de Genève and, under private tutors, specialized in Hebrew, Latin and Greek in preparation for the ministry. However, subsequent study of Eastern philosophies, Sanskrit, and the writings of the early Church Fathers led him to the field of occultism with its broad comprehension of all religions, philosophies and sciences. Dr. de Purucker was head of the Theosophical Society from 1929 until his passing in 1942. Perhaps his greatest contribution to spiritual thought has been his elucidation of the writings of H.P. Blavatsky.

H. P. Blavatsky founded The Theosophical Society in 1875, with the inner mandate to ‘break the moulds of mind’ that had enveloped the world and especially the West at that time. The motto of the Theosophical Society ‘Satyan Nasti Paro Dharma’, ‘There is No Religion Higher than Truth’, became the keynote of the Theosophic impulse and opened the door to new ideas and sources of wisdom: higher consciousness, the ethics of karma, the nature of human consciousness, compassion in action, a living universe, cosmogenesis etc., and people received teachings that had not been communicated for millenia ...

G. de Purucker distinguishes himself by the clarity with which he explains theosophical teachings to his students and the accuracy with which he preserves their purity. These teachings were given at Point Loma, California in the early 1930’s to the esoteric group assembled there, in his capacity as Leader of The Theosophical Society and Outer Head of the Esoteric Section of The Theosophical Society, which positions he held from 1929 until his death in 1942. De Purucker unfolds and elaborates Blavatsky’s core presentation of Theosophy with a deep cohesiveness and the pervasive foundation: “…to teach men their essential Oneness with the Boundless All”
